VISION

God, the ultimate artist is at work making all things new. We exist to join him in creating a city where beauty emerges and everyone belongs. And through His gospel, our broken and fragmented humanity becomes a work of art.

Values

BELONG BEFORE YOU BELIEVE  //  You don't have to believe to be loved - Romans 5:8

LOOK UP  //  Jesus is our focus. Inspiration, and example - Hebrews 12:2

SEE THE UNSEEN  //  Our faith allows us to see what is not yet there - Hebrews 11:1-3

JUSTICE IS AN ACTIVE, RELENTLESS PURSUIT  //  Justice comes from the heart of God and is the restoration of all things - Micah 6:8

EMBRACE THE ULTIMATE ARTIST WITHIN  //  We have a God-given license to create. His spirit lives in us, therefore we can cultivate beauty and art - Ephesians 2:10

OUR STRATEGY:

Our strategy is simple. We want to help people encounter Jesus, one another, and then the world around us. We call it up, in & out.

Belief

We believe in one God: Father, Son and Holy Spirit, as revealed in the Holy Bible and made known in Jesus Christ our Lord.

We believe that Jesus the divine Son became human, was born of a virgin, ministered in word and miracle, died for our sin, was raised bodily from the dead, ascended to God's right hand and is coming again for his people.

We believe that the Holy Spirit is presently ministering through the Christian Community, empowering lives of godliness and service.

We believe that the Holy Bible is God-breathed, true in all its teaching, and the final authority for all matters of faith and practice.

We believe that Jesus Christ established his Church on earth to carry out his saving mission among all people groups and formed the Church to be One Holy People.

We believe in God's saving grace that calls forth from all people: faith, repentance, confession, baptism, and new life and ministry through the Spirit.

And we commit ourselves to the teaching, practice and defense of these truths until the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Our postion on Speaking in Tongues

At Detroit Church, we desire to follow the Holy Spirit with both openness and discernment, holding Scripture as our final authority and the life of Jesus as our model. Few topics stir as much curiosity, confusion, or spiritual longing as the gift of speaking in tongues. Across church history, this gift has been embraced by some, questioned by others, and misunderstood by many. Our hope is to offer clarity, unity, and a pathway for our community to walk faithfully in the things of the Spirit.

This theological primer represents careful study, prayerful reflection, and a desire to shepherd God’s people with integrity. It is written to help followers of Jesus understand what Scripture teaches about the gift, how it functions within the body, and how we can practice it responsibly, biblically, and in love. Whether you are new to this topic or have years of experience, we invite you to read with an open mind and heart, trusting that the Spirit continues to equip the church for life and mission today.
