What's up Detroit Church,
I am glad to serve as the Prayer Coordinator for our family. I believe this will be a year of learning, application, and seeing God respond to our corporate and individual prayers. Through prayer and fasting, we choose to voluntarily sacrifice so that God and His will are the highest priority in our lives! For some of us, it removes the distractions and allows us to see HIM much clearer. As a church, we will be in a time of Consecration from 1/17-1/23 (end of service). This will be a little different format than our previous January consecrations. From the time we wake up until 6pm, we will be abstaining from food. There are a couple of ways to join:
Option one – Skip one meal time – breakfast or lunch – and be intentional to devote that time to prayer
Option two – Water only until dinner
Our prayer times will take place on Zoom each morning and evening. Every morning at 6:30 am we will be praying for 30 minutes of intercessory prayer about lots of topics that are important to us personally and to the Fenkel/Dexter and Broader- Detroit Area. Every night at 8:30 pm we will devote some time to reading and praying through scriptures, topics related to the Sabbath, and ending with communion.
As we learn how to live from Sabbath rest, you might find that you are more aware of God's voice and his presence in your prayer times. We pray that you find yourself responding creatively throughout the week. Post your prayers, songs, pictures, phrases, dances, poems etc on PADLET (password: sabbath). It's like a virtual Creative Prayer Tag Wall!
As I prayed for this consecration I kept landing on two themes: “Simple” and “Create.” I hope you noticed that all the options are virtual. The idea is to provide you with opportunities to engage in fasting and prayer in lots of simple and creative but different ways with your Detroit Church family. So pray and ask Holy Spirit to help you commit to a time of prayer, commit to taking time to sabbath each day and be/create with God, commit to denying yourself to completely engage HIM…
