Detroit Church Corporate Fast
"All these with one accord were devoting themselves to prayer" Acts 1:14
What is Fasting?
The spiritual discipline of temporarily going without something that may be good, to more permanently go after something greater–God.
Why Do We Need to Fast?
Because we want to hunger for God more than anything. And because Jesus expects it of his followers. In Matthew 6:16, he says, “When you fast” not “if you fast.”
Is Fasting basically a diet?
Simply forfeting food is not a biblical fast. A biblical fast has an emphasis on prayer, often substituting time spent eating with prayer or serving others with good deeds.
What are the benefits of fasting?
- Greater abilty to hear God
- Intimacy with Christ
- Greater dependency on God
- Self control
- Decreased desire to satisfy self
- Spiritual strength
what should I fast?
Although what you fast will be between to you and God (and your spouse if you're married), make it count! Do your best to give up something that you regularly enjoy. We suggest starting with food, but in addition, ask him to reveal what additional activities you should go without for the week.
Do Not Fast
- Food, if you are pregnant or have not been cleared to do so from your doctor
- Sex, if you are married and your husband or wife is not in full agreement
What is Creative Prayer?
We know that God will show up anywhere He is welcome. He certainly doesn't need a special place to be able to speak, but sometimes WE need a sacred space to be focused and listen. From 4pm on Friday, January 19th to 10am on January 21st we rented a fully furnished apartment in Midtown that we will fill with interactive stations for you to engage with Father, Son, & Spirit in fresh, creative ways. Hour by hour, we will take turns giving Heaven our attention. Painted prayers, poems of gratitude, scrawled questions, doodled dreams, songs of longing, painted sorrows and joys will fill up the house, simultaneously filling up God's heart and propelling our hearts into one devotion.
Never prayed for a whole hour before? Think you are probably bad at prayer? Imagine prayer is boring? THIS SPACE IS FOR YOU! The most common story told by people who experience an hour in a round-the-clock creative prayer space is that the time absolutely flew by!
Sign up for your hour here! (Login is optional and not required for sign-up.) Couples and families are welcome to sign up together! Due to space constraints and Airbnb policies, we request that groups keep to a maximum of 3 adults - exceptions for families with multiple children.
A prayer room host will be on-site to let you into the apartment and answer any questions you may have. The prayer room location is 437 Forest Ave, Apt #5.
